Buddy Media Creates Opportunity for Global Community of Artists to Join List of Illustrators on Power Your Connections Campaign
NEW YORK, NY, December 15, 2011 – Buddy Media, the social enterprise software of choice for eight of the world’s top ten global advertisers, today announced the launch of its “Power Your Connections” Illustrator Competition, a contest inviting artists to join the current illustrators on the campaign in designing their interpretation of the art of connections to start a conversation in social media.
Illustrators will compete for the chance to win $5,000, a feature in Buddy Media’s global advertising campaign, and the opportunity to have their art showcased at the annual South By Southwest (SXSW) conference in Austin, TX this March.
The competition is the latest iteration of Buddy Media’s “Power Your Connections” advertising campaign, which launched fall 2011 and demonstrates the tangible link between art’s power to connect, and Buddy Media’s mission to re-invent the way brands communicate to their consumers in a connections-based world.
With initial artwork developed by Matt Moore, Tatiana Plakhova and Ames Bros, the global campaign is currently running across print, digital, and social channels.
The contest will run through January 31, 2012, at which time Buddy Media will select five finalists. The public will then be given the opportunity to vote up and comment on the artwork. A panel of judges will work together to pick the ultimate winner.
The judging committee includes:

- Renny Maslow: Commercial Director, specializing in comedic performance
- Rishad Tobaccowala: Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, VivaKi
- Cindy Gallop: Founder and CEO, www.IfWeRanTheWorld.com
- Cary Brothers: Indie singer/songwriter
Buddy Media used its product ReachBuddy, which provides tools to create, manage and track social content anywhere on the web, to build a microsite for artists to join current illustrators. People can also vote for their favorite existing campaign artwork, and will be able to vote on the finalists via the “Power Your Connections” tab on the Buddy Media Facebook Page.
“What we wanted to do was start a conversation. What I love about this campaign is it gets people talking, and talking is social media. It’s not about the message that advertisers put out; it’s how consumers engage with it,” said Michael Lazerow, CEO, Buddy Media. “And beautiful messages that aren’t engaging are going to die. But beautiful messages that people engage with are really what social media is about.”
