Our Work

Fox News Channel

Background

In the spring of 2008, Fox News Channel approached Buddy Media with the task of increasing the functionality of its Facebook Fan Page. The cable television news network was interested in reaching Facebook users with streaming video content that addressed the most newsworthy stories of the day. In addition, Fox News wanted to expand its reach beyond the Fan Page and into individual user profile pages with a unique, branded embeddable video player. The technology needed to be developed around the features and functionalities available to users within the new Facebook framework scheduled to launch in August 2008.

Objectives
  • Develop streaming video technology that would enable embedding within Facebook Fan and Profile pages.
  • Increase user awareness and brand loyalty for Fox News Channel
Solution

Buddy Media worked tirelessly to pioneer a new technology that allowed users to embed streaming video from Fox News directly onto a Facebook profile or fan page. The embeddable video player was designed specifically to take advantage of the functionalities available in the new Faceook interface. For instance, rather than “adding” the video player as an application, users could visit the Fox News Fan Page and customize the video player, so that it could live within the framework of their personal profile pages. In addition, users could become fans of Fox News and extend their brand affinity by personalizing their video feeds for viewing or sharing. It’s all tied together perfectly with Buddy Media’s Brand Advocate Process, which delivers social users to engaging, branded content as a means of creating brand advocates that evangelize the merits of the application and the brand itself. In this case, supporters of Fox News were able to carry their brand affinity off the Fan Page and onto their personal profiles — increasing brand exposure and application engagement beyond the point of first contact.
