Background
Priceline.com has a reputation for delivering innovative and ground-breaking web technology to consumers scouring the internet for the best rates on hotels and airfare. As an e-commerce standard bearer, Priceline was eager to embrace the possibilities inherent in social media. Their goal was to attract a pre-qualified audience of brand advocates, who would spread an engaging Priceline Facebook application across the social graph, thereby reaching a tremendous group of potential customers.
Objectives
- Develop Priceline branded Facebook application to support and extend popular “Negotiator” asset
- Create a unique gaming experience that leverages Priceline’s web presence and travel bidding algorithm
- Drive unique installs of the Ultimate Roadtrip Negotiator application
Solution
Buddy Media combined the irreverence of the Priceline Negotiator television commercials with compelling visuals and an intuitive user interface to create the “Ultimate Roadtrip Negotiator” Facebook application. Buddy Media developed an application that allowed users to negotiate hotel rates as they traveled cross-country in a variety of virtual modes of transportation. Users were aided in their journey by William Shatner, who provided sound bites that encourage and ridicule participants for their bidding skills.
Buddy Media was tasked with driving unique user installs during the course of the campaign. Through the existing community of more than nine million Buddy Media application users, Buddy Media overdelivered the install goal. In addition, the viral nature of the application led to rapid dispersal across the social graph.
