StockTwits Public Profile

Go to the StockTwits Public Profile on Facebook
Background
StockTwits is a community-powered idea and information service for investments which allows users to eavesdrop on traders and investors, or contribute to the conversation and build their own reputation as savvy market wizards. The service takes financial related data – using Twitter as the content production platform – and structures it by stock, user, and reputation. In essence, StockTwits helps people interested in stocks to socialize their ideas.
Because their business model is dependent upon staying on top of groundbreaking developments in the world of social media, StockTwits was one of the first companies to realize the burgeoning capabilities inherent within Facebook’s new Public Profile platform. The company came to Buddy Media with a desire to leverage their user-generated content to build a larger audience of ‘stock-tweeters’ by spreading their social functionality to Facebook.
Objectives
- Design, optimize and manage the StockTwits Facebook Public Profile with the Buddy Media’s Social Page Management System
- Leverage the dynamic feed of user generated content posted through Twitter to populate a branded interface on the StockTwits Public Profile
Solution
The Buddy Media team leveraged the capabilities of their newly created Social Page Management System (SPMS) to bring the StockTwits experience to Facebook. First, the team implemented a customized Tab within the Public Profile navigation menu. This customized Tab served as the home to a dynamic feed of real-time Tweets from the StockTwits website. The user-interface within the Tab was designed to mirror the brand identity of StockTwits.com and a daily leaderboard of the most active StockTwits users was imported into the Public Profile, as well.
A particularly interesting thing from a social standpoint was the incorporation of a dynamic chart that tracks ‘word-of-mouth’ mentions within the StockTwits feed. This feature allows users to see which stocks are talked about most and which stocks have shown a recent decrease in popularity. A frequently updated stock market trending graph served as the final piece of StockTwits’ home on Facebook. The final product exemplifies the new capabilities of the Facebook Public Profile and demonstrates the tremendous potential of Buddy Media’s Social Page Management System.
